Thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience! I very much meant this from a North American centric perspective for white people who don’t have accents. In my experience witnessing and talking to others (white and non-white), they are not asked this question nearly as much as people of color. However, I can see if someone detects “difference” in an accent, anyone can be asked this question which is very frustrating. Like I said, this is my experience, and I appreciate hearing about yours!
